Henry Norbury
Sir Henry Norbury of Stoke d'Abernon (* around 1410; † between 1456 and 1464) was an English knight .
Life
Sir Henry was the eldest son of Sir John Norbury of Hoddesdon and Little Berkhampstead († 1414), and Elizabeth, a daughter of Sir Thomas Butler of Sudley (1358-1398; 1379 de iure 4th Baron Sudeley ).
Since his father served as Lord High Treasurer under King Henry IV and was a close confidante, his son, Henry V , became Sir Henry Norbury's godfather.
Sir Henry Norbury fought in the Hundred Years War . In 1435 he mustered 29 men and 400 archers and fought in the liberation of the city of Rouen in 1436 . The following year royal orders were issued to Henry Beaufort , Bishop of Winchester , to appoint Sir Henry lieutenant of Cherbourg . Between 1441 and 1443, Henry Norbury was also Lieutenant of Rouen. In 1450 Sir Henry led a unit at the siege of Valognes and was shortly afterwards captured at the Battle of Formigny . Back in England, Sir Henry was a member of the House of Commons as Knight of the Shire for Bedfordshire in 1453/54 . Furthermore, Henry Norbury was under King Henry VI. to the Under-Treasurer of England .
Sir Henry fought for the House of Lancaster during the Wars of the Roses in 1460, both in the battles of Northampton and Wakefield , and in St Albans and Towton in 1461 .
The information about the year of his death are different. One source gives 1456 as the year of death, another with 1461 at the Battle of Towton, a third source speaks of 1464.
Sir Herny found his final resting place in the church of Greyfriars Abbey , London.
Marriage and offspring
Sir Henry was married to Anne, a daughter of William Crozier. He inherited the Stoke d'Abernon estate in Surrey from his father-in-law .
