Henry Parker (Georgia)
Henry Parker (* around 1690 near Savannah in what is now the US state of Georgia ; † around 1777 on the Isle of Hope in what is now Chatham County , Georgia) was a British colonial politician and governor of the Province of Georgia .
Life
Nothing is known about Henry Parker's youth and schooling. He served in the civil service and held an office in the Savannah judicial administration. This activity is mentioned in the sources for the year 1734. He later colonized the Isle of Hope. When the Georgia Colony was divided into two counties in 1741, he became its deputy in the Savannah Province, which was under the direction of William Stephens . In 1750 he was also his successor there. At the same time he also became chairman of the first colonial parliament of Georgia. From 1751 to 1752, Parker also succeeded Stephens as colonial governor. He then retired to his plantation on the Isle of Hope, where he died around 1777.
