Henry Peper

Henry Peper (born July 10, 1928 in Hamburg-Neugraben-Fischbek ; † June 2006 ) was a German soccer player and soccer coach .

Henry Peper was a goalkeeper who drew attention to himself in the 1949/50 season when the Oberliga climber Harburger TB was promoted and from 1950 to 1962 he played for Holstein Kiel in the Oberliga Nord . He was considered the undisputed number one goal of KSV Holstein and is also the record goalkeeper with 271 appearances. He was even part of the extended circle of the national team under Sepp Herberger since 1953 . In 1956 he got a job for the B selection. Sepp Herberger explained that despite always good grades and regular places in the top 5 of the best goalkeepers, Sepp Herberger explained: "The Peper is just three centimeters too small." The 1.78 m tall goalkeeper injured himself in 1960 in a severe collision with the knee, so that he had to end his career two years later for the 1961/62 season. In the press he was known as the “backbone of the north”, the “tower in battle” or as the “hero of Kiel”. After his career he was still a trainer at Post Kiel, SC Comet Kiel and Police Kiel.
