Henry Raschen
Henry Raschen (born October 2, 1854 in Oldenburg , † August 24, 1937 in Oakland ) was an American painter of German descent.
Raschen came to the United States with his parents as a child in 1868 . The family settled in Fort Ross , the father of the family became a farmer. Raschen went back to Germany to study and studied from October 12, 1876 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich .
Back in the United States, Henry Raschen moved to San Francisco in 1883 . In San Francisco he temporarily shared a studio with Carl von Perbandt . Perbandt and Raschen also traveled together, "lived the bohemian life" and painted views of Northern California, particularly Sonoma , Humboldt and Mendocino counties. For some time they lived in Fort Ross among the Pomo Indians and also shared a studio there.
After the 1906 San Francisco earthquake , he moved to Oakland . In addition to landscape painting, he also dealt with genre and portrait painting.
