Henry Stewart, 2nd Lord Methven

Henry Stewart, 2nd Lord Methven (* before 1544 - March 3, 1572 ) was a Scottish nobleman .

He came from a branch of the Stewart family . He was the only surviving son of Henry Stewart, 1st Lord Methven from his third marriage to Lady Janet Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 2nd Earl of Atholl . He was born before his parents' wedding in 1544, but legitimized as a legitimate child in 1551.

When his father died in 1551, he inherited his title of nobility as 2nd Lord Methven and his lands including the family seat of Methven Castle in Perthshire . In 1571 he was appointed to the Scottish Privy Council.

He died in an accident in 1572 when he was hit by a cannon shot fired from Edinburgh Castle .

From his marriage to Jean Ruthven, daughter of Patrick Ruthven, 3rd Lord Ruthven , he had three children:

His son Henry inherited his title of nobility. His widow married Andrew Leslie, 5th Earl of Rothes , in 1573 .
