Henryka Zofia Maria Beyer (née Minter; also: Henriette Sophie Marie Beyer , born March 7, 1782 in Stettin ; † October 24, 1855 in Kolonia Chrzanów near Warsaw ) was a German-Polish painter. She achieved a certain fame in Poland with her portraits and flower still lifes. Its importance lies in the establishment of Poland's first painting school for women.

Life

First, Henriette Minter was trained in drawing by the painter Peter Schmidt in Stettin. From 1805 she lived in Berlin with her brother Karl Friedrich (a miniature painter and lithographer ) to assist in the flower painter and director of the local Royal Porcelain Manufactory , Gottfried Wilhelm Völcker to learn.

In 1811 she moved to Warsaw to live with her older brother Wilhelm Heinrich Minter . Here she met Wilhelm Beyer (1778-1819), who immigrated from the Kingdom of Prussia and who came to Warsaw after the third partition of Poland and worked in the headquarters of the lottery company of the Kingdom of Poland . They married in 1813. The couple had three sons; one was the later well-known Warsaw photographer Karol Beyer .

Due to the early death of her husband in 1819, Henriette Beyer had to paint portraits (again) as a widow. She was supported by her brother and Antoni Brodowski . She also gave private drawing lessons. From 1824 to 1833 she was very committed to running the first painting and drawing school for women in Poland. She was buried in the Evangelical Reformed Cemetery in Warsaw. The poet Stanisław Jachowicz dedicated a poem to her in obituary.

Beyer painted in oils, watercolors and rarely in gouache . She preferred still life with flowers and fruits; these works were modeled on the Dutch painters of the 17th and 18th centuries. One of her works is in the Warsaw National Museum . This painting ( flowers in a vase ) served as the motif of an 85 złoty postage stamp from 1989. She signed her pictures with “Hka Beyer”.
