Gottfried Wilhelm Völcker (born March 23, 1775 in Berlin ; † November 1, 1849 there ) was a German flower painter and one of the directors of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory (KPM) in Berlin.

Live and act

Völcker trained as a porcelain painter in the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur, in the Berlin production building at Leipziger Strasse  4. As the successor to his teacher Johann Friedrich Schulze, he took over the management of flower painting in 1803 and, from 1825, of the figure department. From 1833 to 1848 he was director of the entire porcelain manufacture.

In 1811 Völcker became a professor and became a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin and from 1814 to 1846 in the Berlin Artists' Association. Study trips took him to Vienna in 1821, to Paris in 1823 and to Holland in 1825.

Völcker was mainly active as a porcelain painter, but also painted naturalistic depictions of still lifes with flowers and fruits in oil and watercolor. With his works he took part regularly in the Berlin academy exhibitions since 1794. He also frequently worked with Friedrich August von Kloeber , who also created numerous motifs for the Royal Porcelain Manufactory. His son Friedrich Wilhelm (1799–1870) also became known as a painter.
