Herbert Druce
Herbert Druce (born July 14, 1846 in London , † April 11, 1913 ibid) was a British butterfly scientist who collected and described numerous tropical butterflies.
Live and act
Already interested in butterflies as a schoolboy, Druce was elected to the Royal Entomological Society in 1867 , the Zoological Society of London in 1870 and the Linnean Society of London in 1872 . From then on, Druce made a name for himself as an avid collector and describer of tropical butterflies. Among other things, he researched the Central American moths , which he wrote about in the three-volume work Biologia Centrali Americana by Frederick DuCane Godman and Osbert Salvin . He also published several monographs on genera and described a large number of new species in the Transactions of the Entomological Society of London , the Proceedings of the Zoological Society, the Entomologist's Monthly Magazine, and the Annals and Magazine of Natural History . In 1885 and 1892 he was elected to the Board of the Royal Entomological Society. Druce was also a member of the Royal Geographical Society . Druce's extensive collections were acquired by Godman and Salvin before they were bequeathed to the British Museum . His son Hamilton Herbert Charles James Druce (1868-1922) was also a well-known lepidopterist.
