Herbert Giese (born August 8, 1950 in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian , author and court expert.

biography

Herbert Giese studied art history and classical archeology at the University of Vienna . As a student, he opened his first gallery in 1973. His dissertation in Vienna 1976 on the topic “ Franz v. Mud - life and work ”. Together with Harald Schweiger, he founded the Giese & Schweiger gallery in Vienna's 1st district in 1980 . Since 1994 he has also been working as a court-sworn expert for painting. In 1994 he prepared a valuation report for the collection of Rudolf Leopold , on the basis of which the Republic of Austria implemented the purchase of the collection.

Giese is the author of several books and is also known as an expert in painting and graphics in the show Kunst + Krempel on Bavarian television . He is the author of numerous essays on Austrian art of the 19th and 20th centuries (especially in Parnassus ) and various exhibition catalogs ( Wien Museum , Österreichische Galerie Belvedere , Leopold Museum ). He also works as a reviewer.
