Herbert Gustavus

Herbert Gustavus (born February 22, 1927 in Freinsheim ; † October 15, 2014 in Grünstadt ) was a German entrepreneur and politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending primary school in Grünstadt, Gustavus completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic and mechanical engineer from 1941 to 1944. In 1944 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and did military service. After the Second World War , he founded an agricultural machinery company. In 1951 he passed the master craftsman's examination as an agricultural machinery mechanic and then worked as an independent master craftsman.

Gustavus joined the SPD in 1963 and was the party's local and district association chairman from 1969. He was elected to the city council of Grünstadt in 1964 and was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1965 to 1972. From 1973 to 1992 he was mayor of the city of Grünstadt. During his term of office, the town twinning with Carrières-sur-Seine was established . From 1964 to 1999 he was a member of the district council and the district committee of the Frankenthal district and after the regional reform of the Bad Dürkheim district . After Hermann-Josef Deutsch's premature resignation , he took over the provisional management of the district office from 1988 to 1990 as the first district member.

In the state elections in 1971 Gustavus was elected to the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate , to which he belonged until 1975, from a list of the SPD . In the state parliament he was a member of the interior committee and the committee for agriculture and viticulture.
