Herbert Haller (born February 7, 1940 in Munich ; † July 31, 2021 in St. Georgen am Längsee ) was an Austrian lawyer and a member of the Austrian Constitutional Court from 2003 to the end of 2010 .

Life

After attending a humanistic grammar school in Vienna , he passed the Matura in 1958. He then studied law at the University of Vienna and graduated in 1963 with a doctorate in law. iur. away. Subsequently, Haller was assistant at the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Vienna in 1963 with Günther Winkler , a research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation from 1967 to 1969 at the University of Munich and from 1970 to 1975 secretary at the Austrian Constitutional Court . In 1975 he became an assistant at the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and obtained his habilitationfor public law 1978. In the same year he was awarded a Kardinal-Innitzer-Förderungspreis . This was followed by a service assignment to the Federal Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry from 1978 to 1980. From 1985 to 2005 Haller was university professor for public law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

In addition, Haller was a lecturer at the Federal Administration Academy (1984–1989), Dean of Studies at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (1998–2000), Deputy Chairman and Senate Chairman of the Federal Procurement Control Commission, Chairman of the Data Protection Council (2000–2003) and a member of the Austria Convention (2003–2005 ), in which he headed Committee IX (Legal Protection, Jurisdiction). From January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2010 he was a member of the Constitutional Court.
