The Hartge GmbH & Co. KG was a vehicle tuner and low-volume manufacturer specializing in brand vehicles BMW and Mini specialized. The company was founded in 1971 by racing driver Herbert Hartge in Merzig and has been based in Beckingen since 1974 . Hartge had been a recognized automobile manufacturer by the Federal Motor Transport Authority since 1985 . In July 2019, the company was liquidated and removed from the commercial register.

Motorsport

The company achieved notoriety in the 1970s for its success in motorsport. Company founder Herbert Hartge celebrated several victories in circuit and hill climbs between 1971 and 1979 on a BMW 2002 . In 1983 and 1984, the Hartge team took part in the European Touring Car Championship . In 1987, Eric van de Poele competed in the German Formula 3 Cup for Team Hartge and finished the championship in eleventh place. His best result of the season was third place in Zolder. Erwin Weber and Matthias Feltz started in 1988 with a BMW M3 from Hartge Motorsport as part of the European Rally Championship at the Rallye Deutschland , but were canceled due to a damaged suspension. Francis Dosières won in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 1993 on a BMW M3 Hartge of the European Hill Climb Championship . Jean-Michel Martin was also champion in a Hartge M3 in 1990 and vice-champion in the Belgian Procar Championship in 1991.
