Herbert Löbe (born February 26, 1923 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1949/50 he played for BSG KWU Erfurt in the highest East German soccer class.

Athletic career

Löbe's football career began after the end of the Second World War at SG Erfurt-West . This was called SG Fortuna in 1948 and in 1949 was Thuringian soccer champion with Löbe . The Erfurt residents were thus qualified to take part in the 1949 Football East Zone Championship. In the semifinals, Löbe shot the 1-0 lead in a 4-3 win after extra time over SG Einheit Meerane . In the final, Erfurt lost with Löbe as the right wing forward against ZSG Union Halle 1: 4.

As a runner-up, the Erfurt team was given the right to start the East German Football Zone League (later DS-Oberliga, GDR-Oberliga ), which was set up for the 1949/50 season , with which the East German football champions should be determined in the future. Erfurt started the season under the new name BSG KWU and with the 26-year-old Herbert Löbe. He was used in the 26 league games 20 times and came to five goals. When Erfurt was in the final of the GDR soccer cup in September 1950 (0: 4 against BSG EHW Thale ) Löbe was missing. A week later he played his last league game for Erfurt and then did not appear again in higher-class football.
