Herbert Luck North

Herbert Luck North (* 1871 in Leicester ; † February 9, 1941 ) was a British architect who was mainly active in Wales from 1900 to 1940 .

Life

North studied at Jesus College at the University of Cambridge , where he received a Bachelor of Arts . North then went to London and became assistant to the architect Edwin Lutyens .

When he settled in Llanfairfechan , he became interested in the old buildings in the area, especially in Snowdonia . North published several books on the subject. In 1897 he married Ida Maude Davies. The marriage produced a daughter.

Drafts and drawings made by North as well as photographs of his work are now owned by the National Monuments Record of Wales of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales as The Herbert L. North Collection . The collection includes more than 160 individual pieces. The Wern Isaf house, which he built in 1900, is listed as Grade II * on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest .
