Herbert Maurer (born May 12, 1965 in Vienna ) is an Austrian writer .

Life

Herbert Maurer studied linguistics and classical philology in Venice , Jerusalem , Cologne , Bilbao and Yerevan . From 1989 to 1991 he was the coordinator of Austrian projects in the humanitarian and cultural field in Armenia , as well as a journalist (for Austrian and German media), interpreter and translator of the country's contemporary literature. Maurer has lived in Vienna again since 1992 , works as a writer, is the author of novels, short stories, volumes of poetry, plays and translations. After all, he is one of the few surviving representatives of the “Experimental Biography” group. He is also active as a moderator and speaker on radio and television. Herbert Maurer received the Rheingau Literature Prize in 1996 and a residency grant from the Berlin Senate in 1997 . In 1996 he took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt and was awarded the Franz Werfel Medal in 2015.
