Herman Haller

Herman Haller (born December 24, 1871 in Berlin , † May 5, 1943 in London ; actually Hermann Freund ) was a German theater director and playwright.

Life

Herman Haller was director of the Olympia-Theater Berlin from 1894 to 1896, of the Haller Ensemble from 1896 to 1907, of the New Operetta Theater in Leipzig in 1907 (together with Anton Hartmann ), of the Central Theater of Leipzig in 1907, from 1908 of the Carl- Schulze-Theater Hamburg, from 1914 to 1923 of the theater on Nollendorfplatz Berlin and from 1923 to 1932 of the theater in the Admiralspalast Berlin. He became famous as the creator of the Haller Revues in the 1920s.

Of the works he wrote as a librettist , Der Vetter aus Dingsda , Drei alten Schachteln and Der Juxbaron (with Willi Wolff ) are the best known. He wrote the lyrics for songs such as Batavia Fox (1921), Ich bin nur ein poor Wandergesell (1921) and, with Rideamus Solang, also Unterst Linden (1923). In 1936 he emigrated to London.
