Herman Hebler

Herman Hebler (born September 23, 1911 in Fredrikstad ; † August 21, 2007 ) was a Norwegian graphic artist and lived in Fredrikstad. Hebler has been featured at many major graphic art exhibitions and has received a number of awards both at home and abroad.

Hebler received his training at the Kunsthochschule Essen (1937–39) and the Bjarne Engebrets drawing school in Oslo (1947–48). His breakthrough as a graphic artist came in 1957 and 1958 when he was awarded at the Riverside Museum in New York . Hebler received u. a. the honorary award of the city of Fredrikstad, the anniversary award of the Norwegian graphic designers, the Ulrik-Henriksen-honorary award and the Rune-Brynstad commemorative scholarship. He was also made an honorary citizen of the city of Bitola in Macedonia .

Hebler's works can be found in the Norwegian National Gallery, the Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Norwegian Cultural Council, the Oslo Municipal Art Collection, the Fredrikstad Museum, as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London , the Kunsthalle Bremen , the Albertina in Vienna and a number of other museums and collections abroad. Herman Hebler's design expression has many similarities with 1960s minimalism. Hebler is the initiator of the graphic triennial in Fredrikstad and he was an honorary member of the Norwegian graphic association.
