Hermann Albert Hübener (born September 4, 1804 in Brandenburg , † September 18, 1876 in Hamburg ) was a German businessman and Hamburg senator.

Life

Hübener completed a commercial apprenticeship in Potsdam before taking up a position as a clerk in Hamburg in 1826 . In 1829, Hübener founded the trading company Weinkauff & Hübener together with his cousin Wilhelm Weinkauff . The main focus of their trade was on trade with Mexico and on the import of cocoa , in addition they delivered cloth and cotton to Siemssen & Co. in Hong Kong . Since the business of the Weinkauff & Hübener company was very successful, Hübener soon became wealthy. This enabled him to take over offices in Hamburg's local government. On October 31, 1853, Hübener was co-opted into the Hamburg Council . In 1860 the Hamburg Council was transformed into the Hamburg Senate . From 1861 to 1863, Hübener was President of the Shipping and Port Deputation, and from 1864 to 1876 head of the Electricity and Port Construction Section of the Building Deputation. The company Weinkauff & Hübener was liquidated in 1869.

Honors

The Hübenerkai (today Hübenerstraße) at Grasbrookhafen in the HafenCity district was named in his honor.
