Hermann Brügelmann

Friedrich Hermann Brügelmann (born November 5, 1899 in Porto Alegre , Brazil , † October 18, 1972 in Cologne ) was a German local politician.

Life

Hermann Brügelmann, born in Porto Alegre as the son of the businessman Theodor Brügelmann and the chamber singer Hedy Iracema-Brügelmann , was the great-grandson of Johann Gottfried Brügelmann . He spent his school days in Cologne and Stuttgart (1917 matriculation examination after the Unterprima because he was called up to the artillery). After the aborted studying music in Stuttgart and Munich (1919-1923), he holds a degree in economics, finance, law and psychology in Basel , Bern and Hamburg , before 1928 in Basel with a dissertation on the warehousing business at Edgar Salin Dr. phil. PhD. He was married to Lilli B. (née Port) from 1928 to 1949 and to Eva B. (née Wollmann) from 1950 until his death. His children are Gerta Stählin, Klaus Brügelmann, Silvia Gaspard, Hans Brügelmann and Ursula Brügelmann.

Brügelmann died at the age of 72 in his apartment in Cologne-Dellbrück .

Professional activity

From 1932 to 1934 Brügelmann headed the German National Academic Foundation before resigning for political reasons. He then worked as a freelancer for the Friedrich-List-Gesellschaft, then in the Berlin economic supply, as a psychological proficiency tester for the Wehrmacht and as a statistician for the Ostland-fiber company (subsidiary of the Ost-fiber company ) and in the armaments ministry in Berlin. After the Second World War, Brügelmann worked as managing director in the aid organization of the evangelical churches (Berlin) before he took over the management of the Association of Municipal Enterprises (VKU 1949-1956) in Cologne in the 1950s. As an alderman of the German Association of Cities (1956–1965) in Cologne and as secretary of the board of trustees of DATUM (Bad Godesberg), Brügelmann contributed to the introduction of long-term urban and regional planning in the 1960s.
