Hermann Conrad (born December 25, 1889 in Eiershagen near Denklingen , today the Reichshof community ; † October 9, 1959 in Nümbrecht ) was the founder of the museum at Homburg Castle .

Life

Hermann Conrad was born as the son of the farmer Ferdinand Conrad in Eiershagen today (Reichshof municipality) in what was then the Waldbröl district. He also had a sister and three brothers. After attending the one-class elementary school in Dickhausen ( Waldbröl ), he then went to the preparatory institute (today's Wüllenwebergymnasium) in Bergneustadt to be trained as a teacher. In 1907 he attended the Royal Prussian teacher training college in Gummersbach . From 1910 to 1911 he completed a year of military service in Saarbrücken. Then he entered the school service. He worked at a primary school in Driesch (Nümbrecht community). This was interrupted when he was fighting in the First World War. In 1924 he was a co-founder of the Oberberg department of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein . At his instigation, a cultural and historical museum he founded was inaugurated on August 26, 1926 at Homburg Castle, today's Museum of the Oberbergisches Kreis. At Easter 1946 the museum was reopened after it had previously had to close.

A portrait of Hermann Conrad painted by the Nümbrecht artist Paul Kaufmann hangs in the museum at Homburg Castle.
