Hermann Custer

Hermann Custer (born April 19, 1823 in Rheineck , † August 27, 1893 in Aarau ; resident in Rheineck) was a Swiss coinage .

Life

Custer spent his youth in St. Gallen and from 1837 at the Aarau trade school . He completed an apprenticeship as a pharmacist in Bern from 1841 to 1843 and studied at the Pharmaceutical Institute in Jena from the fall of 1846, where he also received his doctorate. In 1849 he gave lectures on organic chemistry .

In 1850 he was appointed to Berne as a federal coinage, where he was responsible for exchanging coins as part of the federal currency reform. In 1855 he was promoted to federal mint director. However, he resigned from this position at the end of 1856 in order to take over a silk factory in Aarau in 1857, which belonged to relatives on his mother's side.

Furthermore, Custer was President of the Aargau Natural Research Society from 1863 to 1875 and from 1880 he was Treasurer of the Swiss Natural Research Society .
