Hermann Fuchs

Hermann Fuchs (born March 13, 1896 in Wegberg ; † August 27, 1970 ibid) was a German librarian .

Life

Fuchs attended the Dreikönigsgymnasium in Cologne before studying theology, Semitic languages ​​and Islamic studies in Cologne and Bonn . From 1915 to 1920 he did military service and was a prisoner of war. After receiving his doctorate in 1923 at the University of Bonn , he completed his library training as a trainee at the University Library of Bonn and passed his specialist examination at the Berlin State Library . He worked there from 1926 and took over the management of the German General Catalog in 1934. During the Second World War, from 1940 to 1944 he headed the library protection department in the staff of the German military commander in France . From 1946 he worked at the University of Mainz (1955–1962 director of the Mainz University Library ). Until 1968 he taught at the Frankfurt library school.
