Hermann Hoogeweg

Hermann Hoogeweg (born May 25, 1857 in Gumbinnen / East Prussia , † November 19, 1930 in Oelde / Westphalia ) was a German archivist and historian.

Professional career

During his studies in 1878 he became a member of the Arminia Breslau fraternity . Hoogeweg began his career as archivist in 1883 at the Prussian State Archives in Marburg . Further stations were the Prussian state archives in Münster , Düsseldorf , Hanover and Wetzlar . In 1913, after Walter Friedensburg left , he took over the management of the Stettin State Archives . In 1923 Hoogeweg was retired. From 1928 until his death, he arranged the holdings of the Stralsund City Archives , in particular the documents, as part of a work contract , and wrote a brief history of this institution.

Scientific activity

In 1883, Hoogeweg received his doctorate from the University of Münster with a thesis on the chronicle of the so-called Martinus Fuldensis . In his publishing activities as archivist, monasteries and monasteries in the Protestant areas of Lower Saxony and Pomerania formed a focus alongside the history of archives and the publication of document books. In the history of the Pomeranian region, Hoogeweg has made lasting contributions with the two-volume work “The Founders and Monasteries of the Province of Pomerania ”. As director of the State Archives in Szczecin, he was a member of the board of the Historical Commission for Pomerania .
