Hermann Klewer (born July 7, 1886 in Heißen ; † March 15, 1957 in Essen ) was a German trade unionist, long-time member of the SPD and board member of Neue Heimat and member of the supervisory board of Hüttenwerke Ruhrort-Meiderich AG.

Live and act

Born the son of a factory worker, Hermann Klewer attended elementary school and then completed an apprenticeship as a plumber. He became a member of the SPD early on. In 1903 he joined the trade union , where he soon became an honorary functionary. In 1914 he moved to Essen and in 1924 he became a full-time secretary in the Essen district management of the German Metalworkers' Association under the direction of Carl Wolf .

After the unions were dissolved at the beginning of the Nazi era in 1933, Klewer was active in various professions. After the end of the Second World War in 1945, he played a key role in building up the Essen trade union movement. As a result, he became an authorized representative in April 1946 and, on July 1 of that year, district manager of IG Metall in Essen. In the latter function, he opened the May rally, which was taking place again for the first time on Essen's Holleplatz after a 13-year break, then gave the floor to Mayor Heinz Renner and later gave a speech himself. Klewer became a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia district committee of the trade union federation and board member of Neue Heimat - Gemeinnützige Wohnungs- und Siedlungsgesellschaft AG Essen , which was subordinate to the trade union federation. During this time his membership in the supervisory board of the Hüttenwerke Ruhrort-Meiderich AG also fell.

On June 29, 1945, the military government appointed Klewer as a member of the 13-person central citizens' committee. He then became a member of the Essen City Council appointed on February 6, 1946. In that year Klewer became a member of the SPD sub-district executive committee in Essen. From March 1946 to April 1947 he was a member of the Zone Committee of the British Zone of Occupation .

Hermann Klewer was buried in Essen's southwest cemetery.
