Life

Hermann Kurz studied theology in Prague and was ordained a priest there in 1748. He initially taught philosophy and theology in the monastery and at times also in Goldenkron until he was appointed full professor at the Archbishop's St. Adalbert College in Prague in 1764. On May 22, 1766 he was elected pastor in Malsching and on May 21, 1767 abbot.

In 1786, as part of the Josephine reforms, he was relieved of his office by Emperor Joseph II and relegated to the monastery-owned fisherman's farm.In September 1790, after the death of the emperor, he was reinstated in all rights after the interim Commendatarian Abbot Johann Aquilin Hrdlička was recalled . The Hohenfurt Abbey thus escaped repeal, but had to provide four and later five professors for the philosophical college in Budweis , which later became the German grammar school.

During his time as a theology professor, Kurz published several theological textbooks. He died in 1795 and left the pen in great debt. The place Hermannsdorf (previously Mehlhüttel) is named after him.
