Hermann Ludwig Behn

Hermann Ludwig Behn (born October 16, 1820 in Hamburg ; † December 29, 1901 there ) was a German lawyer and Hamburg Senate Syndic.

Life

Behn became an orphan in 1824 . He attended the Lütkenssche School in Hamburg, and later the Katharineum in Lübeck until graduation at Easter 1838 . He studied law, first from 1839 at the University of Bonn and later in Heidelberg. On May 10, 1842 , he received his doctorate in Heidelberg. On January 2, 1843, he was in Hamburg as a lawyer admitted. On April 11, 1851, he was appointed Senate Secretary of the Hamburg Senate and served as such until 1861. On January 14, 1861, he was appointed Senate Syndic. He was a member of the Senate until 1891, Werner von Melle succeeded him.

On December 8, 1853, Behn married Frances Eliot Gossler (born August 28, 1832 in Hamburg; † December 14, 1859 there), daughter of the businessman Heinrich Gossler . Franz Hermann Behn was a son of the couple. In his second marriage, he married Adelheid Senstad (1834–1905) on April 22, 1875. August Behn was his brother.
