Hermann Reckendorf (Orientalist, 1863)
Hermann Reckendorf , actually Salomon Reckendorf (born February 5, 1863 in Heidelberg ; † March 10, 1924 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was an orientalist , Arabist , literary scholar and professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg .
Reckendorf's father Hermann (1825–1875) was also an orientalist and taught at Heidelberg University. Salomon Reckendorf initially studied Semitic languages under Theodor Nöldeke at the University of Strasbourg , and also at the Berlin Rabbinical Seminary, but later turned away from orthodoxy . He received his doctorate in 1886 at the University of Leipzig , in 1888 he completed his habilitation at the University of Freiburg. Both works appeared under the name Salomon Reckendorf, later he called himself Hermann like his father after turning away from orthodoxy.
