Hermann Rohrbach (born March 19, 1905 in Solingen , † August 23, 1985 in Lübeck ) was a German opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Rohrbach studied singing in Cologne and made his debut in 1934 at the Grenzlandtheater in Ratibor . After a stint at the Stadttheater Hagen, he came to the Stadttheater von Lübeck in 1939, where he was a member of the ensemble until 1970 and where he appeared as a guest until 1978. According to the presentation in the Lübeck City Archives, the theater there survived the bombing raid on Lübeck on March 29, 1942 without major damage only because Rohrbach and two other employees threw the bombs that had hit the roof on the street before they could explode in the theater.

He was best known for his interpretations of Wagner roles, which brought him an invitation to the first Bayreuth Festival after the end of the war in 1951 . There he sang Hans Sachs in the Meistersinger under the direction of Herbert von Karajan and Hans Knappertsbusch . After disputes with Karajan, however, there was no further appearance in Bayreuth. Further guest appearances followed u. a. at the Gran Teatre del Liceu , Barcelona , Graz and Eutin .
