Hermann Scheller

Hermann Scheller (baptized on May 13, 1637 in Braunschweig ; buried on May 27, 1687 there ) was a wood sculptor in Braunschweig.

Life

Hermann Scheller was baptized as the son of the guard and later servant in St. Andrew's Church and received citizenship in Braunschweig on July 8th . He was married to Magdalena Benßen († 1669) and after her death he married Margarete Kettelhut in February 1670. He owned a house at Beckenwerkerstraße 14/15, where Jürgen Röttger had previously lived. From 1674 to 1693 he lived in Meinhardshof 5. He was buried in the St. Ulrich churchyard; his widow married the sculptor Joachim Querfurt on October 26, 1687 .

Scheller carved the grave monument of the ducal chancellor Heinrich Schrader († April 23, 1672) and his wife Margarete Remmers († 1667), which was attached to a central pillar of the Katharinenkirche , which he wrote in 1659 in an artist's handwriting " Hermann Scheller Bildhawer has ververtigt dis epitaphium " signed. The grave monument for the pastor Großwald in Lower Sick dates from the same year . The pulpit in Pillowbrück , which no longer exists today, which is signed “Hermann Schler” , is considered to be his main work. He also created the wooden tomb for the student Anton Schacht (* 1641, † 1656) in the Stephanikirche in Helmstedt .

On January 19, 1663 Scheller received 22 marks, 24 shillings and on April 29, 31 marks 12 shillings for his work on the fountain on the Kohlmarkt and for moving 2 marks 12 shillings, which consists of a horse with Neptune, columns and two lions, two pyramids and two council coats of arms existed. The fountain is no longer preserved today. Further work for Pastor Christoph Lechius († October 21, 1665) and for Pastor Oeding in the Magnikirche are attributed to Hermann Scheller.
