Hermann Schramm (singer)

Hermann Schramm (born February 7, 1871 in Berlin , † December 11, 1951 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German opera singer ( tenor and tenor buffo ).

Life

Schramm was born in Berlin and first worked as a businessman. Only later did he complete a vocal training and made his debut in Wroclaw in 1895, before moving to Cologne in 1896. From 1899 he played at the municipal theaters in Frankfurt am Main. Although he gained a high reputation over the years and was courted by many well-known theaters at home and abroad, he stayed in Frankfurt until 1933. As a Jew he had to give up his Frankfurt engagement in 1934, but survived the Nazi era in Frankfurt. A guest performance in 1946 at the Frankfurt Opera as Eisenstein in der Fledermaus was a moving reunion . Schramm later became an honorary member of the Frankfurt Municipal Theaters. He was a member of the Frankfurt Freemason Lodge Zur Aufstieg Morgenröthe .
