Werner Bramke (born July 8, 1938 in Cottbus ; † January 24, 2011 in Leipzig ) was a German historian and politician ( PDS ). From 1994 to 2003 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony .

Life

After graduating from high school and a practical year at the Oberschule in Cottbus, Bramke studied history and German at the Potsdam University of Education from 1957 to 1962 . He then worked until 1969 as a vocational school teacher for history, German, civics and Latin in the Geithain district and in Delitzsch. In 1969 he received his doctorate on the subject of " The position of the Kyffhäuserbund in the system of militaristic organizations in Germany 1918-1934 " in the subjects of cultural and military history at the PH Potsdam and then worked until 1972 as a research assistant at the Military History Institute in Potsdam . Since 1972 he was senior assistant at the chair for German history and history of the German labor movement at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . In 1976 he presented his dissertation B on the subject of " Basic features and maintenance of tradition in the anti-imperialist struggle of the KPD during the Weimar Republic " and obtained the academic degree Dr. sc. phil. In that year he took on his first lecturing activities at the University of Leipzig and was finally appointed full professor for the latest history and history of the German labor movement 1917–1945 in the history section and the faculty for philosophy and history in 1979. From 1987 to 1990 he was director of the history section. From 1992 to 2003 Bramke held the chair for modern and contemporary history at the Faculty of Philosophy and History and the Faculty of History, Art and Oriental Studies at Leipzig University. Since his retirement and leaving the Saxon state parliament, he has worked as a freelance journalist .

politics

Bramke was a member of the SED from 1958 to 1990 and later the PDS. He was GO secretary from 1976 to 1977 and was a member of the Saxon state parliament from 1994 to March 1, 2003 during the second and third electoral periods. After resigning his mandate, Ralf Eißler was his successor. Bramke was always drawn into parliament via the state list of the PDS Saxony . He was chairman of the committee for science, universities, culture and the media.
