Hermann Schreibauer

Hermann Schreibauer (born April 28, 1931 in Munich ) is a former German boxer . He was the winner of the bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the European Amateur Championship in 1953.

Career

Hermann Schreibauer grew up in Munich and started boxing there as a teenager . With a height of 1.85 m and a weight of approx. 90 kg, he was a handsome heavyweight. In 1950 he was one of the best Bavarian boxers in this weight class. He made his first appearance at a ranking tournament in Nuremberg that year. In this tournament, however, he was still defeated by the then best Bavarian heavyweight Adam Stenger from Coburg by being knocked out in the first round.

In 1951 he started at the ranking tournament of the best South German boxers. He managed to take revenge against Stenger in the semifinals, whom he defeated on points. In the final he also defeated Horst Witterstein from Kempten (Allgäu) and was the tournament winner. In the same year he was also southern Bavarian champion, but lost on July 1, 1951 in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate at the Bavarian championships against Stenger in the final on points. On March 25, 1951, he fought in Alsfeld as the winner of the qualifying tournament of the southern group against the winner of the northern group Edgar Gorgas from Essen for the right to start at the European Championships in Milan . Hermann Schreibauer lost this fight just on points and therefore had to leave the starting place to Edgar Gorgas.

In 1952 Hermann Schreibauer lost in the final battle for the South Bavarian championship on April 17, 1952 in Rosenheim against Horst Witterstein on points, who also became German champion that year. In a comparison of cities between Munich and Hamburg on October 26, 1952, he was knocked out in the first round over the Hamburg champions Tredorp.

1953 was the most successful year in Hermann Schreibauer's career. In spring of this year he qualified as the winner of the DABV elimination tournament for participation in the European Championship in Warsaw . He won there in the heavyweight division in the quarterfinals over the Hungarians Fazekas on points and was defeated in the semifinals by the Poland Bogdan Węgrzyniak with the same result. He won the bronze medal with it . At the German championship, which took place after the European championships, Hermann Schreibauer lost to Karl Kistner from Nuremberg in the semifinals and took 3rd place.

In the fall of that year, a Western European Selection traveled to several comparative fighting against the United States in the USA . Hermann Schreibauer was used in the heavyweight division. In his first fight against the United States in Chicago, he lost to Robert Jefferson on points. Two days later, a certain Charles L. Liston was his opponent in St. Louis , who was none other than the later famous professional world heavyweight champion Sonny Liston . Sonny Liston, already a tough bat back then, won this fight through tech. KO in the 1st round. On the return trip to Europe, the Western European selection stopped in Ireland and boxed against the national relay of Ireland. Hermann Schreibauer was the point winner over Walsh.

In 1954 Hermann Schreibauer moved to Neckarsulm for professional reasons . He boxed there in the club relay of SpVgg Neckarsulm and was also the Württemberg heavyweight champion that year. He did not take part in the German championship that year.

At the German championship in 1955, Hermann Schreibauer defeated Hamburg's Albert Westphal in the semifinals , but lost to Horst Witterstein in the final and became German runner-up. In 1956 Hermann Schreibauer returned to Munich. He now started for SV 1880 Munich. He could not qualify for participation in the German championship this year because he was defeated on points in the final of the Bavarian championship against Josef Pietron from Poland, who came from Munich.
