Hermann Vering (1878)

Johann Hermann Vering (born November 4, 1846 in Ahlen , † January 6, 1922 in Hamburg ) was a German building contractor and pioneer of traffic route construction in the 19th century.

Life

Hermann Vering graduated from high school in Münster. He then moved to the Technical University of Hanover to study engineering . Here he became a member of the Corps Slesvico-Holsatia in 1869 . After participating in the Franco-German War as a volunteer , he joined the construction company C. Vering, founded by his brother Carl Hubert Vering in 1855, and has been responsible for technical management ever since. Both brothers developed one of the largest construction companies in the German Empire in a short period of time and are considered to be pioneers of German transportation infrastructure in the 19th century with construction projects at home and abroad. Vering is particularly known as a specialist in port construction from this era.

Together with his brother Carl, he achieved urban historical significance for the Elbe island of Wilhelmsburg and thus for Hamburg through the industrial development of the Reiherstieg district there . He was a member of the supervisory boards of a number of stock corporations and was a donor of the Hamburg Scientific Foundation . In 1904 he acquired the Wulfsdorf estate and expanded it into a model estate . From 1894 to 1912 he was a member of the municipal council of Wilhelmsburg and the district council in Harburg.
