Hermann Wichmann

Hermann Wichmann (born October 22, 1823 in Berlin , † August 27, 1905 in Rome ) was a German composer and writer .

Life

Wichmann was a son of the Berlin sculptor Ludwig Wilhelm Wichmann (1788-1859). He studied with Louis Spohr and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy . In 1857 he was temporarily music director of the Musikverein in Bielefeld , then he settled back in Berlin.

He was one of the friends of Giacomo Meyerbeer and Carl Lührß . Of his compositions, his songs, which were part of the repertoire of the singer Jenny Lind , were particularly successful .

Since January 13, 1861, under the pseudonym "Spohr" was a member of the Association Tunnel over the Spree .
