Hermann Zwi Szajer

Hermann Zwi Szajer (born May 18, 1948 in Bayreuth ) is an artist living in Germany who deals with the fields of painting, photography, drawings, collages and room installations. Hermann Zwi Szajer emigrated from Germany to Israel and eventually returned. He lives and works in Aachen .

biography

Hermann Zwi Szajer was born in Bayreuth in 1947 , as a child of Upper Silesian Jews in 1948 he emigrated to Israel, where he spent his youth in Tel Aviv . After a one-year internship at the Habima National Theater in Tel Aviv and his military service in the Israeli army from 1966 to 1969, he began studying at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem , which he graduated in 1972.

He then emigrated to Germany and studied with Erich Mansen at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart until 1977 . There he occupied himself with painting and made experiments with masonite , paper and mixed media. From 1977 large-format drawings were the subject of his work.

While teaching as a lecturer at the VHS Aachen, he accompanied productions at the Theater Aachen , where in 1987 diary drawings, photographic works and drawings, especially for Samuel Beckett'sWaiting for Godot ”, were created. In 1988 a volume of poems by Rose Ausländer was published with the name “Meine Toten Schweigen tief”, which Hermann Zwi Szajer accompanied with photo work from the Jewish cemetery in Aachen .

From 1988 the artist experimented with photo prints and drawings, and from 1989 he began to create pictures (acrylic) with photo sprinkles on the subjects of desert, water and Israel. His work was accompanied by several trips to Israel. For his photo project with Antwerp Talmud Torah students, which was funded by the Foundation for Art and Culture of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia , he worked in the Jewish quarter in Antwerp from 1997 to 1998. Since 1999 he has been producing photographic works with cross-fading, complexity, transparency and blurring on aluminum, parchment, marble and canvas.
