Hermann von Arbon (* 11th century or 12th century; † September 1 or November 20, 1165 ) was Bishop of Constance from 1138 to 1165 .

Life

Hermann's origin is uncertain; he possibly came from a ministerial family of the Diocese of Constance. The nickname "von Arbon", which refers to this presumed origin, was only given to him in modern times. He was a monk in Einsiedeln before he was elected Bishop of Constance in 1138. His confirmation by Innocent II took place on April 21, 1139. Bishop Hermann played an important role in imperial politics during the reign of Conrad III. and Frederick I. During his tenure on March 23, 1153, the Constance Treaty between Pope Eugene III. and King Friedrich I closed, in which the modalities of Friedrich's coronation were determined.
