Hermann von Hövel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann von Hövel (* in the 15th century; † March 5, 1478 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and canon in Münster .

Life

Hermann von Hövel came from the Westphalian noble family von Hövel . Its exact origin is not documented. On July 27, 1450, he joined the protest against the appointment of Walram von Moers as bishop, whose election led to the Munster collegiate feud . The canons Adolf von Rhemen , Hermann Droste zu Vischering , Hugo von Schagen and Heinrich Korff called Schmising , who also belonged to the protest movement, were therefore banned from the bishops . It has not been established whether Canon Engelbert von Wulften , who was also involved in the protest, was punished. On June 1, 1466, Hermann left the clergy and returned to secular life. It cannot be determined whether this resignation was connected with a ban by the bishop.
