Life

Hagen was probably enrolled at the University of Rostock in May 1547 and, where it is not known, earned his master's degree. From 1556 he was the first Lutheran preacher in Hamburg-Neuengamme , which he remained until his death. He translated the work Christian prayers for allerley Noth and Stende of the whole of Christendom, published in 1567, divided into every day of the week by Johann Habermann von Hochdeutsch into Low German . He dedicated the translation to the Bergedorf office administrator Johann Moller. The translation appeared for the first time in 1570, and was reprinted several times, the last time in Amsterdam in 1652.
