Hermine Kittel , married Hermine Haydter , ( December 2, 1879 in Vienna - April 7, 1948 there ) was an Austrian theater actress , opera singer ( alto ) and vocal teacher .

Life

Kittel began her stage career in Laibach in 1897 as an actress. It was here that her voice was discovered during a performance of Karl Millöcker's operetta The Seven Swabians . Shortly afterwards she was engaged as a singer at Theater Graz . Amalie Materna took on her vocal training in Vienna. She then worked at the Graz Theater from 1899 to 1900, before going to the Vienna Court Opera in the last year mentioned (later: Vienna State Opera), where she stayed until the end of her career in 1931. Then she worked as a singing teacher.

In 1936 she played “Countess Palmatica” on the stage of the Vienna State Opera in the begging student of Millöcker. In the period from September 22, 1901 to June 30, 1936, the Vienna State Opera recorded 1,482 performances. She was best known for her Wagner roles, for example she was seen and heard as Brangäne in the new production of Tristan and Isolde under the direction of Gustav Mahler . In 1902 and 1908 she also took part in the Bayreuth Festival , in 1922 she took part in one of the first opera performances at the Salzburg Festival ( Le nozze di Figaro ).

She was married to Alexander Haydter , also an opera singer. Her brother was the conductor Karl Kittel .
