The house itself is a simple, rectangular, two-storey, eight-axis , full-cellar building in the style of the early renaissance in north-south orientation, on which two two-axis dwelling houses are attached to each gable (two on the east and west side). This gives the gables a three-storey appearance. The main body is covered with a two-storey gable roof, which has three ox eyes on both sides in the lower area and two ox eyes in the upper area . The four mid-houses each have a single-storey gable roof and the gable fronts are broken up by two round, horizontally arranged gable windows. A coat of arms with the year 1696 can be seen on the west side. A swan and three hats with birch cock feathers can be seen in the coat of arms. The swan stands for the von Plötz family and the three hats for the von Birkholtz family. These stand for the lords of Joachim von Plötz and Katharina Agnes von Birkholtz, who married on November 20, 1670. Access is through two opposite portals at the level of the central axis of the house - one on the west (the courtyard) and one on the east (the park side). These lead into the large hallway, which takes up the entire middle area of the ground floor. Here is a large fireplace, the entrances to the gable rooms on the ground floor, as well as stairs to the upper floors and the cellar vaults. The upper floors are no longer in their original state due to various uses and conversions in the 20th century, but have been restored to them in recent years. In the cellar vault there is, among other things, a well, which should ensure the internal water supply. A small inner courtyard is located in front of the main building to the west, which is accessed via a southern and a western three-bay stone arch bridge and is enclosed by a low natural stone wall.

Both the mansion and the inner courtyard are surrounded by a 10 to 20 meter wide moat, which was once filled with water, fed by three natural springs. Although the inlets have now been partially canalized and the trench has been drained and partially filled, it is still clearly visible in the terrain relief. The arches of the bridges were walled up or provided with a weir , so that the southwestern part of the trench in between, which is fed by one of the three springs, is still filled with water. It serves as an extinguishing water pond for the local fire brigade . Originally, the aristocratic seat should have had the character of a permanent house .

A manor house surrounded by several large farm buildings is in front of the complex of mansion and inner courtyard to the west of the moat. On the east side there is a large English-style park . Detached buildings such as the Kavalierhaus , “ Polenhäuser ” and gardener's houses have been parceled out and are used for residential purposes.

history

The Röcknitz manor probably dates from the middle of the 15th century. In 1465, Hans von Broda auf Röcknitz received 14 groschen annual interest from Czoch, today's Zwochau . In 1495 Georg von Waren was in the Röcknitz manor . In addition to the manor, there was also a manor belonging to the Meißen cathedral monastery in Röcknitz around 1500 , which was later partially used as a sheep farm. In the 16th century the estate belonged to the von Nitzschwitz family. Several short-term owners followed one another, and from 1622 Christian Zoch from Zwochau; the von Zoch then kept it until 1687.

In 1687 Joachim von Plötz became master of the Röcknitz manor. He also bought the Treben manor from the then owner Privy Councilor von Bünau and merged it with the Röcknitz manor. On November 22nd of the same year he was appointed as patron with the title Landkammer- und Bergrat in Röcknitz and Treben by order of the elector . The right of patronage came back from the Elector to Röcknitz after 117 years. In 1696, the current mansion was renovated by Joachim von Plötz in a simply elegant style . After the death of Joachim von Plötz, the right of patronage was withdrawn and the property went to Oberwachtmeister Karl Reinhard von Hartitzsch for over thirty years in 1718 .

From 1750, von Haudring and von Fuchs followed one another. In 1872, the royal chamberlain, Baron Karl Alfred von Wächter, bought the Röcknitz manor, a son of the lawyer and rector of the universities of Tübingen and Leipzig, Karl Georg von Wächter , who is buried in Röcknitz. After Wächter's death in 1914, it was sold to the Bautzmann brothers for 500,000 marks. As early as 1917, the Bautzmann brothers had to return the estate to Dr. Sell Arthur Köpp, the founder of the Vasenol factory in Leipzig. He paid 1.5 million marks for the manor and leased the property. His son Heinrich took over the manor in 1935, but no longer lived in the manor house. After the Second World War Heinrich Köpp went to Oberndorf am Neckar .

Modern times

The upper floor of the manor house was inhabited by thirteen refugee families from East Prussia and Silesia in 1954. A bay window was added for this, and a sanitary block was built on the northern outer wall in 1947. The ground floor and the first floor were used as a vocational school, kindergarten, after-school care center and as office space for the BHG. Here there was a farmhouse parlor, the library, the senior citizens' club, a beauty parlor, a youth room and a laundry roll. The last resident left the building in 1997, whereupon it stood empty and was released for demolition.

The representatives of the Röcknitz municipal council decided in 1999 to preserve the manor house, and in 2000 extensive renovation work began on and in the manor house of the Röcknitz manor. So the attached sanitary wing was torn down and partition walls were torn out.

Whitsun 2000 the first floor of the manor house was ceremoniously handed over. In September 2000 the large room in the mansion was handed over. Since then the house has been used for the Röcknitzer Herrenhausmarkt, galleries and other events. It is also possible to rent rooms for celebrations.
