The Herrenmühlen lock or Badschleuse is a listed lock on a tributary of the Saale in the city of Weißenfels in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the building is listed as a monument under registration number 094 66141 .
history
The Herrenmühlen lock was built as part of a major project to make navigable from the Saale to the Unstrut . With the completion of this lock in 1823, the major project was completed. Along with the lock at the Beuditzmühle and at the Brückmühle, it is one of three locks in the Weißenfels urban area. It is the youngest of the three locks, as the other two were built in the 1790s and it is the northernmost. The construction of the lock was necessary due to the weir of the Herrenmühle , which is also the namesake of the lock. Construction of the lock began in 1821 and the opening took place on November 16, 1823. In the immediate vicinity, a spa complex including a bathhouse was built from 1824, from which the second name as bath sluice is derived.
description
The Herrenmühlen lock is a chamber lock. To close the lock chamber, stem gates are used, which are opened and closed via gate poles and a mechanical drive. In the 1960s, the lock received electric drives. During the modernization in 1991, the old wooden gates were replaced with new steel gates. Since the river is no longer a federal waterway here, tourist use is in the foreground. Water sports enthusiasts with boats up to a meter deep should still be able to navigate the Saale here.
