The Herrsching is a motor ship with a paddle wheel drive operated by Bayerische Seenschifffahrt , which operates regular service on the Ammersee between the towns on the lake in summer . It is named after the municipality of Herrsching am Ammersee . The ship is marketed as a paddle steamer , although it is not a steamship .

technology

It has a total length of 54 meters and a width of 14 meters. It is approved for the transport of 400 people and has 150 indoor seats. The Herrsching is motorized with two Deutz marine diesel engines of the type BF 1015 MC with 380 kW each, which drive two side paddle wheels. So the ship is a paddle wheel ship, but not a paddle steamer . The ship is also equipped with bow and stern thrusters of the Schottel Pump Jets SPJ 57 type, each with 120 kW.

history

The ship was built under construction number 164 at the Lux shipyard in Niederkassel am Rhein . Construction began in September 2001 and commissioned on May 15, 2002.

Predecessor ship

A predecessor ship with the same name was put into service on the Ammersee in 1956. It was built at the Deggendorf shipyard and attracted media interest because of several serious design errors. In order to free the name, it was renamed Ammersee in 2002 and scrapped in autumn 2006.
