The Hersch Tower is a historically significant Art Deco- style skyscraper in Elizabeth , New Jersey .
Construction work on the building began in 1930 at the time of the Great Depression , initiated by businessman Louis Hersh. Building materials were mainly bricks that were common at the time. It was completed a year later. The tower has 14 stories and is 42.6 meters (140 ft ) high. The building was planned by the architects Nathan Myers and Joseph Shanley. The building also has revolutionary ventilation and evacuation systems.
The building underwent a renovation in the 1970s, including renovations to the elevators and sheet metal decorations in the lobby. In 1990 it was bought by the Wybro brothers.
Today, together with other buildings, it forms the historical center of the city.
