Herta Slabina

Herta Slabina (born October 11, 1931 in Vienna ) is an Austrian former politician ( SPÖ ) and member of the government.

life and career

Herta Slabina was born on October 11, 1931 in Vienna and attended the Schönborngasse Commercial Academy from September 1946 , from which she graduated in 1950 with the Matura . Subsequently, she worked as a civil servant in the public sector operates. As such, she belonged to the Federal Ministry of Science and Research . On September 28, 1984, the then 52-year-old replaced Hans Ludwig in the Vienna City Council and State Parliament and was a member of the 13th electoral term for the rest of the time . She then represented the 10th Viennese district of Favoriten as a member of the SPÖ14th electoral term , in which she also appeared from December 15, 1989 to March 1, 1991 as fifth chairwoman, and from March 1, 1991 to December 9, 1991 as second chairwoman of the Vienna City Council. With her resignation from the Viennese municipal council and state parliament, Slabina retired in 1991 at the age of 61 and subsequently began to work actively in various functions with the Association of Social Democratic Freedom Fighters, Victims of Fascism and Active Anti-Fascists . Already during her active time in politics she campaigned for women's affairs, the fight against discrimination of all kinds, advice and support for disabled and elderly people, integration and understanding advertising for foreigners, animal welfare, solidarity in the health and pension system or the fight against poverty .

On October 20, 1992, by resolution of the Vienna Provincial Government, she was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor for Services to the State of Vienna , which was subsequently presented to her on December 21, 1992. Slabina is still honorary chairwoman of the district women's committee of Favoriten, chairwoman of the district group of freedom fighters of Favoriten and financial advisor of the federal government, as well as deputy of the regional chairman of the freedom fighters Vienna.

At the ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the February fights in 1934 , as well as the unveiling of the memorial for the victims of the fights, Slabina took part in the spring of 2014 together with her husband Albin. Even today (as of 2018) Slabina lives with her husband in her home district of Favoriten.
