Herwig Friedag

Herwig Friedag (born May 18, 1921 ; † July 3, 2012 in Berlin ) was a German journalist and association official.

Life

After the Second World War , Herwig Friedag began his journalistic career as a trainee at the Berliner Tagesspiegel . He then worked for the Berlin daily newspaper Der Abend . During this time he was also an honorary district councilor of the SPD in the Berlin district of Zehlendorf , until 1959 also as parliamentary group chairman.

From 1959 to 1963 Friedag was the editor-in-chief of Berlin Voice , the newspaper of the SPD regional association in Berlin.

In 1963 he went to Sender Freie Berlin , where he became head of the Zeitfunk editorial team in 1970. Here he helped to reorient the radio programs, especially of SFB 2 , which culminated in forms such as the SFB 2 aid campaign for Santomenna after the 1980 earthquake in Campania . From 1983 until his retirement in 1986 he was the broadcaster's programming officer.

From 1969 to 1985 Herwig Friedag was chairman of the German Association of Journalists in Berlin, to which he belonged for over 60 years and which made him honorary chairman.

His grave is in the Zehlendorf forest cemetery in Berlin.
