Herwig of Meissen
Herwig (* in the 11th century ; † June 27, 1119 ) was Bishop of Meissen from 1106 to 1119 .
Herwig is also passed down under the names Herwich, Hervicus, Herevig, Herevicus, Hertwig, Herdewig or Hebicus . He is said to have been born in Wurzen in the Gau Siusili . Herwig is the founder of the Wurzen collegiate foundation , which is dependent on Meißen and which he endowed with income from the Burgwart Pouch , the Zoll zu Wurzen and various properties and which was inaugurated in 1114. He was buried there too. In 1119 a crusade began against the Sorbs , which had obviously been preceded by bitter disputes in the border region.
