The Catholic parish church Herz Jesu ( listen ? / I ) with its two massive bell towers is one of the striking buildings in the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Mayen ( Mayen-Koblenz district ) in the Vulkaneifel . It belongs to the parish community Mayen, part of the deanery Mayen-Mendig in the diocese of Trier . Audio file / audio sample

Due to the growing community, the church was built in 13 months from 1911 to 1912 according to the design of the architect Caspar Clemens Pickel as a supplement to the nearby St. Clemens Church . During the Second World War , it was largely destroyed on January 2, 1945 and rebuilt in 1952 under the architect Weschbach in the old picture, including the western church tower that had been preserved. It received its characteristic double tower facade in 1959 with the addition of the south-western bell tower. The two are each 43 meters high and form two of the five towers of the church built as a basilica . The interior is 50 meters long, 29 meters and in the central nave 15 meters high.

The neo-Romanesque church building is located directly on the Mayen city wall and to the east below the Genoveva Castle and, like this, is adapted in the medieval style. It is a protected cultural monument and is therefore part of the monuments list of the city of Mayen .
