The Duchy of Clermont-Tonnerre is a fiefdom or title of the House of Clermont-Tonnerre .

history

The Duchy of Clermont was created (as Duchy and Pairie ) in 1571 from the County of Clermont (based on the small town of Clermont in the Dauphiné , which is now part of Chirens ). But since the Count of Clermont refused to cede the county to his son, the elevation of the rank had no effect. The Duchy of Tonnerre was created (as a Duchy and Pairie) in 1572 from the County of Tonnerre to replace the Duchy of 1571. Since the establishment of the death of the Duke in 1573 Parlement had not yet been registered, went out of the title.

The Duchy of Clermont-Tonnerre was established (as Duchy and Pairie) in 1775 on the basis of the Marquisate de Vauvillars (including other associated areas) (the County of Tonnerre had been sold in 1684). In addition, in 1823 the title Duc de Clermont-Tonnerre as Pair de France was conferred by the Cardinal Bishop of Toulouse, Anne-Antoine-Jules de Clermont-Tonnerre , which, however, must be viewed as a personal title due to the spiritual status of the owner.
