use

Hexamidine and its diisethionate are used as antibacterial agents or as disinfectants and preservatives, for example in cosmetics. It is also used in ophthalmology, for example to treat Acanthamoeba keratitis, in the form of eye drops. Hexamidine was patented by May & Baker in 1939 and is commercially available as a generic .
