Hidden in the Fog is a Progressive / Extreme Metal band from Magdeburg .

history

The band was formed towards the end of 1996, their first release, the demo recording Into the Moonlight's Cold Embrace , was released in 1998. A year later, the MCD Of Hidden Chronicles & Stellar Fires was released. In March 2001, Hidden in the Fog recorded the CD Promo 2001 in the studios of LXounds Productions. The press reacted positively to the 45-minute CD, which is why offers from smaller underground record companies followed.

In the summer, the drummer Muth separated from the band and was replaced by the previous keyboardist Botis. With the new line-up, the band wanted to write new songs and then record them in-house. From December 2002 the album Abstract Maelstrom Paragon was recorded, which was released in June of the next year and became demo of the month in the 03/04 issue of Metal Hammer , 9 out of 10 points in Rock Hard , 13 out of 15 Legacy and 5 out of 5 as well as the award best underground CD 2003 in Aberration Mag . Due to the success, the band wanted to find a label for future releases. She chose to distribute Twilight. This published a new edition of Abstract Maelstrom Paragon in May 2004 .

After 15 months, the new album Damocles was released on August 15, 2005, again via Twilight. This album also received positive reviews: 9.5 out of 10 in Rock Hard , 6 out of 7 in Metal Hammer , 13 out of 15 in Legacy , 10 out of 12 in Heavy! , 9 out of 10 in Norwegian Scream Magazine and 5.5 out of 6 in Greek Metal Invader . After the album was released, the band went on a 14-day European tour with Vital Remains .

style

The music combines elements of Black Metal with quieter passages and the complex structures of Progressive Metal , comparable to Emperor , Arcturus and Borknagar . The band uses growling and screaming as well as undistorted vocals. There are also spoken passages.

The lettering of Hidden in the Fog contains a symbol from Peter Carroll's Liber Kaos , the psychonomicon, which consists of a hand and an eye. Her texts, which deal with Ghâsh's view of the world in general and which “cannot really be tied to specific topics”, are not necessarily directly related, but there is a general reference to her artistic expression. Ghâsh emphasized that he “thinks (and hopes) that the lyrics on 'Damokles' have nothing in common with typical Black Metal lyrics. Quite simply because we don't see HITF as belonging to Black Metal either. Many aspects are addressed such as despair, helplessness or impotent anger - but there is also joy or happiness. "Botis rejects the traditional definition of Black Metal based on satanic lyrics and the narrowing to the Nordic-influenced, simple, cold, guitar-dominated variety and describes himself and his fellow musicians as musically open, which is reflected in the music. The band, in which two members of African descent play, speaks out against right-wing extremist infiltration of the scene; Metal is “definitely the wrong style of music to get rid of political statements or even propaganda. Simply for the reason that the target audience is far too apolitical. There are far more useful platforms for this. And all these Nazi stupidities are not political statements, but just a pile of soft, whisked rubbish without any basis. "
